This chick warmer only uses 12 watts (5% of the electricity of typical suspended poultry heat lamps) because the chicks are in contact with its warm under-surface as they would under the mother hen. The new Eco Glow 20 Safety 600 chick brooder uses a metal warming plate which evens out hot and cold spots which occur with plastic heat plates improving heat radiation. The new flared skirt design also retains more heat further reducing energy use. Unlike other chick heating plates the Brinsea Eco Glow brooders run at 12Volt from a mains transformer (supplied) – a much safer option than mains voltage chicken heating plates or heat lamps.
