HONEYSUCKLE: The genus Lonicera contains more than 200 species worldwide and is distributed in temperate and subtropical regions of North America, Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Most of the species are small trees or shrubs. Honeysuckle is cultivated in private gardens and in cities as an ornamental because of its large, fragrant flowers and brilliant red fruits. Lonicera sempervirens 'Honey Coral' Honeysuckle. Spectacular honeysuckle for the hummingbirds! Honey Coral is an All Native Selection of Honeysuckle. A twining, climbing vine that will make a beautiful cover over fences, trellises, and arbors. It can be trained to become a structure or used in a hanging basket. The flowers are 2” long tubular, bright red to orange-red flowers. Showy blooms that have an extended blooming season which attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Flowers may be followed by red berries in autumn. Honey Coral can be grown in the Eastern U.S.., form Connecticut southward to Central Florida and west to Texas. It's not aggressive like the closely related, non Japanese Honeysuckle. Habitat: Rich hammocks, sand hills, open woodlands and thicket.
