About this product
DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is a substance produced naturally in the body by the adrenal glands, which are located just above the kidneys and liver. The adrenal glands produce several other important hormones, including cortisol that is involved in our stress response, along with adrenaline, which is important for producing energy. As we age, production of DHEA is reduced, resulting in decreased DHEA levels within the body. The decline in DHEA may start around age 30. DHEA can be converted to DHEA sulfate in the brain, liver and other tissues, with DHEA sulfate being the form that circulates in the blood. DHEA is involved in a variety of metabolic roles and serves as a precursor for several hormones making it important for both men and women.
