    Richie Valens eponymous album was released one month after his untimely death in the plane crash that also claimed the lives of Buddy Holly and Big Bopper. The single success of Donna and La Bamba had hinted that Richie might be on the verge of a hugely successful solo career; the plane crash in Iowa (Richie was only on the plane because he won a coin toss for a seat) brought those dreams to an end.
