Mandrels are used to mount different accessories to use with your Dremel rotary tool. The 402 Dremel Mandrel features a slotted screw head and a 1/8 In. (3.2 mm) shank. The 402 mandrel is typically used to hold accessories like cutting wheels and sanding discs. The flathead end of the wrench included in most rotary tool kits can be used to loosen or tighten the screw on the mandrel when doing accessory changes. Compatible with all Dremel corded and cordless rotary tools. There’s no need to hunt for the right collet, all Dremel rotary accessories feature a 1/8” standard shank. From the Manufacturer A shank with a screw-like head. Used primarily with Dremel polishing bits and accessories. For best results, insert the mandrel all the way into the tool and then back it out slightly before tightening down. This provides plenty of shank for the collet or chuck to hold onto. Simply remove the screw, line up a cut-off wheel or sanding band over the hole in the shank, and replace and tighten the screw.
