This budget-friendly kit includes a base, adhesive thermometer, airline, hose clamp, and 3 packets of hatch mix – just add a 2-liter soda bottle and air pump. It's that easy! This kit is for hatching brine shrimp eggs only; it does not raise baby brine shrimp to adult size. Freshly hatched baby brine shrimp are the perfect food for baby and small-mouthed fish, reef tanks, and filter-feeding aquatic organisms. The jerky swimming motions of freshly hatched baby brine shrimp will trigger baby fish and finicky marine fish, such as mandarins and anthias, to feed. Furthermore, freshly hatched brine shrimp still contain their nutrient-rich yolk sac, making them the perfect first food for baby fish. Best of all, they are easy to hatch. Brine shrimp are aquatic crustaceans that belong to the genus Artemia which is the only genus in the Artemiidae family. Brine shrimp can produce dormant eggs known as cysts. The cysts can remain inactive for years, which is why they may be stored indefinitely and hatched on demand. Freshly hatched baby brine shrimp are known as nauplii, which is the first larval stage of many crustaceans. Baby brine shrimp are most nutritious as a food source when fed to newborn fish within 2 hours after hatching. Artemia is also sold as a novelty gift under the marketing name Sea-Monkeys.
