The Shimano Deore XT M8000 11-speed 11-40 cassette is the key piece to Shimano's latest evolution of their newest Deore XT group. With the addition of an 11th cog, XT now gives you a wider gear range and smoother shifting progression. The XT M8000 cassette now goes up to an enormous 40T cog, which gives you a much easier gear for those big climbs. That means you can run XT as either a 1x system with a single chainring upfront without sacrificing your climbing gear, with a 2x system that offers far more versatile gearing options, or even a 3x with a low gear that would let you grind up almost a vertical wall if you needed to. But Shimano didn't just stick a big cog on the back of a 10-speed cassette. They carefully selected the cogs with their new Rhythm Step progression to ensure that the shifting feels balanced, smooth, and progressive, without any big or jarring jumps in the cassette. Plus, thanks to a cantilevered 11th cog, the M8000 cassette will fit on your old 8/9/10-speed freehub bodies, no wheel upgrades required.
